Curragh

Wesfarmers operates the Curragh mine situated 200 kilometres west of Rockhampton in Queensland’s Bowen Basin. As one of Australia’s largest independent coal producers, Curragh produces around nine million tonnes of metallurgical and steaming coal annually.

Export metallurgical coal is transported 300 kilometres by rail to the Port of Gladstone where it is shipped to customers in Japan, South-East Asia, Europe and South America.

Curragh’s steaming coal is produced for domestic power generation and transported by rail directly to the Stanwell Power Station near Rockhampton. The 20 kilometre overland conveyor which transports coal from Curragh North to Curragh is the longest single flight conveyor in the world.

Premier Coal

The Premier Coal open-cut mine near Collie, 200 kilometres south of Perth, produces around three million tonnes of coal per annum. The coal is mainly sold under long-term contract to its major customer, the state government-owned Verve Energy, for domestic power generation. Premier Coal also supplies the mineral sands processing industry in Western Australia.

The unique qualities of the coal mined at Collie are ideal for reliable, efficient electricity generation using both conventional and new low emissions coal technology.

Bengalla

Wesfarmers has a 40 per cent interest in the Bengalla open-cut coal mining joint venture, situated at Muswellbrook in the Hunter Valley in New South Wales. Coal and Allied manages the operation, which is capable of producing more than six million tonnes of steaming coal for both domestic and export purposes.

Bengalla is considered one of the most technically advanced and productive operations in the region.
